What is Christian Science?

Mary Baker Eddy claimed to have discovered Christian Science in 1866 when she fell on ice.

We are told that she was seriously injured and expected to die. As she studied her Bible, she claimed that her scientific system of healing was revealed to her by God. Christian Science was founded by Mrs. Eddy in 1897 and Christian Scientists refer to her as their Leader, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.

Christian Science differs from every point central to Christian doctrine. In a leaflet entitled Questions and Answers on Christian Science it is said that the word Science is used "because it can be demonstrated" and "We see God as the universal, divine Principle underlying the life and healing work of Christ Jesus."

The Christian Scientist's view of God is that He is only good. They see Jesus Christ as "occupying the highest place in human history." They separate Jesus and Christ - Jesus being human and Christ as being his divine nature eternally with us.

Much can be written about the differences between Christianity and Christian Science. If this interests you, please look at www.christianway.org.

A good reference book is "The Kingdom of the Cults" by Walter Martin
